Prescriptive Process Monitoring Under Resource Constraints: A Causal Inference Approach

چکیده

Abstract Prescriptive process monitoring is a family of techniques to optimize the performance business by triggering interventions at runtime. Existing prescriptive assume that number may be triggered unbounded. In practice, though, consume resources with finite capacity. For example, in loan origination process, an intervention consist preparing alternative offer increase applicant’s chances taking loan. This requires time from credit officer. Thus, it not possible trigger this all cases. paper proposes technique triggers cost function under fixed resource constraints. The relies on predictive modeling identify cases are likely lead negative outcome, combination causal inference estimate effect case’s outcome. These estimates used allocate maximize function. A preliminary evaluation suggests approach produces higher net gain than purely (non-causal) baseline.

Foundations of Prescriptive Process Monitoring

Predictive process monitoring is concerned with the analysis of events produced during the execution of a process in order to predict the future state of ongoing cases thereof. Existing techniques in this field are able to predict, at each step of a case, the likelihood that the case will end up in an undesired outcome. These techniques, however, do not take into account what process workers ma...

Decision Making Under Risk: A Prescriptive Approach

This article takes the form of a research proposal. The paper seeks to address the problem faced by investors of how best to deal with decision making under risk. The methodology utilizes a normative model from economics—expected utility theory—and a descriptive model from psychology—prospect theory—to formulate a rational but realistic compromise between the two: a prescriptive model of risk p...

Planning under Resource Constraints

This paper outlines the basic principles underlying reasoning about resources in IPP, which is a classical planner based on planning graphs originally introduced with the graphplan system. The main idea is to deal with resources in a strictly action-centered way, i.e., one speciies how each action consumes or produces resources, but no explicit temporal model is used. This avoids the computatio...

Why Process Matters for Causal Inference

In this paper we provide a formal account of how information about causal processes (i.e., knowledge of the causal chain linking an explanatory variable to an outcome variable) can be used to sharpen causal inferences. All of this is done within a Bayesian potential outcomes causal model. The methods discussed in this paper empower researchers by providing them with a richer palette of causal a...

Truth discovery under resource constraints

Social computing initiatives that mark a shift from personal computing towards computations involving collective action, are driving a dramatic evolution in modern decision-making. Decisionmakers or stakeholders can now tap into the power of tremendous numbers and varieties of information sources (crowds), capable of providing information for decisions that could impact individual or collective...
